Securing the Analog Hole in AI-Generated Media

Multi-Modal Sensor Fusion for Deepfake Detection

Washington Tec is developing a hardware-based authentication protocol that addresses the fundamental vulnerability in current deepfake detection systems: the analog hole.

Our approach combines quantum shot noise analysis with biomechanical motion detection to create an unforgeable chain of custody for digital media captured at the sensor level—before any AI manipulation can occur.

The Problem

Current Detection Fails

Software-based deepfake detection operates post-capture, analyzing pixels that can be manipulated. This creates an arms race where detection always lags behind generation capabilities.

National Security Risk

Adversarial nations can fabricate convincing evidence, undermine chain of custody in legal proceedings, and erode trust in authentic media—all critical threats to defense and intelligence operations.

Our Solution

1. Quantum Shot Noise Fingerprinting

Every camera sensor produces unique quantum noise patterns that are physically impossible to replicate. We extract and cryptographically sign these patterns at the moment of capture, creating an immutable hardware fingerprint.

2. Biomechanical Motion Analysis

Human hand tremor contains involuntary micro-movements (8-12 Hz physiological tremor) that AI cannot convincingly simulate. Our system validates that recorded motion exhibits authentic biomechanical signatures.

3. Multi-Modal Sensor Fusion

By combining optical, inertial, and temporal data streams at the hardware level, we create a verification protocol that operates before the analog-to-digital conversion—closing the analog hole.
